Flylady Morning Routine

Have You Done Your Morning Routine?

Establishing a consistent morning routine is a cornerstone of the FlyLady system, designed to help you start your day with structure and positivity. By following a set of simple, habitual tasks each morning, you can maintain a clean and organised home while reducing daily stress.

The Importance of a Morning Routine

A morning routine sets the tone for your entire day. It allows you to accomplish essential tasks early, providing a sense of achievement and momentum. As FlyLady emphasises, these routines are the foundation of the whole system; without them, you may struggle to find your wings to FLY (Finally Love Yourself).

FlyLady Morning Routine Checklist

I've been starting my day, by doing the Flylady Morning Routine for over 25 years. The FlyLady system morning routine comprises several key tasks that, when performed consistently, keep your home in order and your mind at ease. Here's a breakdown:

  1. Make your bed: Starting your day by making your bed instantly makes your bedroom look tidier and gives you a small win to kickstart your morning.
  2. Get dressed to shoes: Dressing completely, including lace-up shoes, signals to your brain that it's time to be productive. FlyLady advocates for this practice to help you transition into an active mindset.
  3. Swish and Swipe the Bathroom: Spend a minute or two wiping down surfaces and swishing the toilet bowl. This quick action keeps your bathroom presentable and prevents grime buildup.
  4. Shine your sink every day: A shiny sink can serve as a motivational focal point in your kitchen, encouraging you to maintain cleanliness in the surrounding areas.
  5. Check your calendar: Reviewing your schedule helps you stay on top of appointments and tasks, ensuring nothing important slips through the cracks.
  6. Start a load of laundry: Beginning a load of laundry in the morning prevents piles from accumulating and makes the chore more manageable.
  7. Quick declutter (2-15 Minutes): Spend just two minutes picking up items out of place. This habit keeps clutter at bay and maintains order in your living spaces.
  8. 5-Minute room rescue: Choose a room and dedicate five minutes to improving its state, whether by tidying up or organising. Over time, these short bursts lead to significant improvements.

Personalising Your Morning Routine

While the above checklist provides a solid foundation, it's essential to tailor your morning routine to fit your lifestyle and household needs. Consider adding tasks that align with your personal goals, such as:

  • Exercise: Incorporate a short workout or stretching session to energize your body.
  • Meal Planning: Take a moment to plan your meals for the day, ensuring a balanced diet.
  • Meditation, Prayer or Journaling: Spend time in reflection to centre your mind and spirit.

Progress Over Perfection

Remember, the goal is not to execute the perfect routine but to make consistent progress. Even completing a few tasks from your morning checklist can set a positive tone for the day. As FlyLady reminds us, "Progress over perfection!"  FlyLady

By establishing and maintaining a morning routine, you're investing in a more organised home and a more focused and productive you. Start small, be consistent, and watch as these daily habits transform your life.
