Kickstart 2025 With FlyLady Zone 2: A Sparkling Clean Kitchen In Just One Week
FlyLady Zone 2: Kickstarting 2025 with a Fresh, Clean Kitchen
Welcome to the first full week of 2025, and what better way to start the year than by diving into FlyLady Zone 2: The Kitchen! The kitchen is the heart of your home, and keeping it clean and organised will set a positive tone for the rest of your year. Let’s start the week of Monday, 6th January 2025, with small, achievable steps to make your kitchen sparkle.
Monday: Declutter and Organise
Start the week by tackling one drawer or cupboard. Set your timer for 15 minutes and sort through your kitchen gadgets, utensils, or pantry. Toss out anything broken, expired, or unused. Donate items that no longer serve you but could be helpful to someone else. Decluttering first makes the rest of the week’s cleaning tasks much easier.
Pro Tip: Keep a small box nearby for items you plan to donate, and move it straight to your car when you’re done!
Tuesday: Shine Up the Appliances
It’s time to show some love to your hardworking kitchen appliances. Wipe down the fridge, microwave, and oven, and don’t forget smaller items like the toaster and kettle. If you have a dishwasher, clean the filter and give the exterior a quick polish.
Quick Hack: Use a mixture of warm water and white vinegar for a streak-free finish on stainless steel appliances.
Wednesday: Countertops and Cabinets
Midweek is perfect for clearing and cleaning your kitchen surfaces. Remove any clutter from your countertops and wipe them down thoroughly, paying attention to corners and edges. Next, move on to your cabinet doors. A damp cloth with a touch of dish soap works wonders on greasy fingerprints.
Extra Task: If you have time, check the contents of your cabinets and reorganise them for easier access.
Thursday: Sink and Taps
The kitchen sink is a workhorse, so let’s make it shine! Scrub the basin, taps, and drain with a non-abrasive cleaner. If you have a garbage disposal, pop in a few citrus peels and run it with cold water to freshen things up.
FlyLady’s Secret Weapon: Dry and polish your sink with a microfibre cloth for that extra sparkle!
Friday: Floors That Gleam
End the week by giving your kitchen floor a good vacuum (or sweep) and mop. Pay attention to the corners and edges where crumbs like to hide. If you have time, give your baseboards a quick wipe, too.
Weekend Bonus: If you missed any tasks earlier in the week, you could use Saturday to catch up or spend 15 minutes adding an extra touch of detail, like organising a spice rack or deep-cleaning your stovetop, but only if you want to remember Saturday is Family Fun Day in the Flylady System. I love to do my zone work on a rainy weekend.
