Weekly Review – A Fresh Start, Every Week
New Year, New You… But Why Only Once a Year?
Every January, many of us take a deep breath, set resolutions, and promise ourselves a fresh start. A new year feels like the perfect reset button—but why wait twelve months for a chance to begin again?
Life doesn’t pause between January and December, and neither do our habits, goals, or clutter. What if we treated every day, week, or even hour as an opportunity to reset, refocus, and gently steer ourselves in the direction we want to go?
In this post, we’ll explore why a New Year reset is great, but why we don’t need to limit ourselves to just one a year—and how small, regular resets can make lasting change feel easier, kinder, and much more achievable.
Every hour, day, week, month and year is an opportunity to restart.
We don’t have to wait for a new year, a new month, or even a Monday. We can begin again whenever we choose.
One simple habit that can really help with this is a weekly review.
Rather than only reflecting once a year, a weekly review gives us the chance to pause regularly, look at how things are going, and gently guide ourselves back towards the life and routines we want to be living.
It doesn’t need to be long or complicated. Just a few quiet minutes at the end of the week can make a big difference.
The three weekly review questions
At the end of each week or the start of the new week, ask yourself:
-
What do I want to do more of?
This could be anything – resting, drinking more water, decluttering little and often, moving your body, spending time outside, or simply being kinder to yourself. -
What do I want to stop doing?
Maybe it’s overcommitting, negative self-talk, procrastinating, scrolling too much, watching too much TV or expecting perfection. -
What do I want to continue doing?
These are the things that are already working well. Your routines, habits, or small wins that you want to keep building on.
There’s no judgement here. This isn’t about listing failures or things you “should” be doing. It’s about awareness, intention, and progress – not perfection.
Why weekly reviews work so well
A weekly review fits beautifully with the FlyLady way of living.
We reset, we adjust, and we keep moving forward gently.
If a week hasn’t gone to plan, that’s okay. We don’t quit – we simply reset.
If a week has gone well, we notice what helped and carry it forward.
Small, consistent check-ins often create more lasting change than big, once-a-year goals.
Making it a habit
Consistency is the key to moving forward because small, regular actions add up over time. It’s not about perfection or huge leaps, but about showing up week after week, day after day, even when it feels slow.
By staying consistent with routines, habits, and gentle resets, we build momentum, create lasting change, and making progress feel natural rather than overwhelming. True transformation usually comes from steady baby steps, not sudden bursts.
My weekly Flylady review
I’m planning to do a weekly review every Sunday afternoon or evening. Sometimes it might be written down, sometimes just thought through quietly, and sometimes shared here.
This first one might be a little late – but that’s real life. We just jump back in and keep going.
Whether you write your answers down, share them with others, or simply reflect quietly, every reset counts.
A fresh start is always available – and now we get one every single week.
